It does not appear that Rob Porter and White House chief of staff John Kelly have the same story about Porter's resignation.

Courtesy of Axios:

White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter is telling associates that some senior White House officials strongly encouraged him to "stay and fight," and claims he "never misrepresented anything" to Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Why it matters: This White House has a culture problem, starting at the top. The natural instinct is to defend/deny and show scant, if any, concern for the women alleging misconduct and harm. And when the going gets tough internally, the other natural instinct is to blame everyone but yourself.

It should be noted that Trump himself offered this reaction when asked about Porter's resignation:

"I found out about it recently and I was surprised by it," Trump said. "We certainly wish him well. It's obviously a very tough time for him. He did a very good job while he was in the White House."

"We hope that he will have a wonderful career," Trump added.

Trump said "it was very sad when we heard about it."

Trump focused on Porter's denial of the allegations that he struck his two-ex-wives while they were married. "He says he's innocent, and I think you have to remember that," Trump said.

"He said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent, but you'll have to talk to him about that."

So essentially Trump was insinuating that the women were liars, and seems very defensive about losing Porter.

But that is NOT the story that Kelly wants told about his reaction:

According to the member of Congress, giving the most detailed Kelly version of events so far:

In Kelly’s telling, Porter misrepresented to him that the Daily Mail story would be about a messy marriage and divorce, with allegations of verbal and emotional abuse.

Kelly specifically asked Porter about physical abuse of both ex-wives and girlfriends, and Porter denied that.

Upon Porter’s denials, Kelly allowed the White House press team to write a statement giving a wholehearted endorsement of Porter as a man of great integrity. (This was Kelly’s initial statement.)

Kelly is telling associates that only when the Daily Mail story published online on Tuesday night did he learn the real story.

Kelly says he immediately took action: he confronted Porter, told him he had to resign, then called President Trump to inform him of his decision. This is what Kelly means when he tells colleagues he acted quickly and settled the matter within 40 minutes.

However it should be remembered that this was what Kelly said right after the story of Porter's spousal abuse became public:

"Rob Porter is a man of true integrity and honor and I can't say enough good things about him … I am proud to serve alongside him."

That does not sound like a man who "acted quickly" when he learned that his trusted subordinate had a history of beating the shit out of the women in his life.

By the way even some of Kelly's White House aides are calling bullshit on his version of events.

This Trump White House is almost literally bulging with habitual liars so it is almost impossible to discern who might be telling the truth at any given time.

But in this case I am thinking that Kelly is simply in CYA mode right now, and is lying his ass off to keep his job.

"This is a very disturbing article. If in fact Rob Porter's interim security clearance expired on Jan 15 and John Kelly continued to let him handle highly classified information, then Kelly must resign. Also, giving someone classified info who is not cleared to see it is a crime."

    1. One has to wonder who else in the White House is privy to classified material and do not have the proper security clearances. I'll bet a lot more than we suspect. It's one crime after another with this administration, from minor to major crimes, they make no differentiation.

To whom will Porter reveal some of these secrets now that he's been kicked out of the White House? If he was liable to blackmail before, he's now available to sell his secrets to the highest bidder.

The "Republican Denial" of funds for security infrastructure years ago that President Obama ordered and was hatefully denied by "Republicans" during his term is what has caused Russian invasion of our country.
THE ENTIRE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS TO BLAME. The parade of dangerous Russian operatives in the white house is outrageously beyond criminal. TREASON.

According to an article I read, there are over 30 people in the Trump administration that do not have the necessary security clearances. Porter's is especially troubling considering he handled everything including items that are far above Top Secret classification. As someone pointed out, it's a crime to handle this info without sec. clearance and it's also a crime to allow it to continue. This implicates Kelly, McGahn and Trump!

Kelly is in deep shit legally. He allowed Porter to handle classified documents well after his temporary Security Clearance expired.

No, Trump needs to fire Kelly! Trump's the one that put Kelly in the position and knew what Porter had done. Trump needs to be impeached and his entire administration fired! Just look at the number of folks that have either quit or been fired since Trump took office. It's friggin' amazing!

"President Trump is defending Rob Porter even though, privately, he says he’s guilty.

Behind closed doors: The president has told multiple people that he believes the accusations about Porter, and finds him “sick.”

Four sources who have spoken directly with Trump tell me his private comments about ex-aide Porter — whose two ex-wives accused of violent attacks — have been brutal.

But his public comments don’t reflect that, at all.

This is the strongest indicator yet that Trump will reflexively defend his male allies from any and all accusations, even when he thinks those accusations are true.
Trump tells friends that he deplores the #MeToo movement and believes it unfairly exposes CEOs to lawsuits from their female employees. The fact that women frequently face sexual predation in the workplace doesn’t impact his view on this.
Behind-the-scenes: Porter appears to have crossed Trump’s red line. In the Oval Office, Trump read a print-out of the Daily Mail story with incredulity. He quickly turned on Porter. Trump said he was shocked that this clean-cut Harvard guy with the perfectly parted hair — “straight out of central casting” — could have violently attacked women.

Over the last few days, the president has told associates he believes Porter’s ex-wives’ accusations.

Trump has also told associates that he views men who beat their wives the same way he views child molesters: as “sick puppies.” (This sits uncomfortably beside the fact that Trump stood by accused child molester Roy Moore.)

He thinks there’s something wrong with them [men who attack their wives] and they never change... He thinks they can’t be reformed.
    — One source who has spoken with Trump about Porter.
But — at least in Porter’s case — he’ll still publicly back them up. On Friday, Trump expressed sympathy for Porter, praised his White House work, and made no mention of the women who say he attacked them."

"Donald Trump this week plans to hold a public signing ceremony for a sexual abuse law just days after he defended a White House staffer who was accused of abusing his two ex-wives.

Politico reported on Sunday that Trump's Wednesday schedule includes a signing ceremony for the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act.

The act, sponsored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), requires anyone who oversees children athletes to report allegations of sexual misconduct or abuse.

The ceremony will just a week after Trump and Chief of Staff John Kelly defended White House staffer Rob Porter over abuse charges -- even though the FBI had refused to grant him a security clearance based on the allegations.

It was not immediately clear if Trump would take questions at Wednesday's ceremony. One hopes that some reporter might remind Trump of his own statements bragging about getting away with on walking in on young women at beauty pageants and grabbing women without their consent."<C&L

My opinion is (1) either Kelly has given up his own integrity while being in the Trump White House or (2) Kelly has always been a jerk and lying about others is second nature to him and he walked on the backs of others to rise in the military ranks.

    I say, fire his ass.

Kelley is a proven liar who lies to cover his provable lies. (remember that Congress woman who he lied about concerning her conference statements) That right there should have him removed from the Corps.
      Fucking POS.

Poor old dotard trump. I bet he wants everyone to feel sad sad sad for HIM being accused of raping and smacking women. Big big BIG man. Yeah poor abusive bullies always reverse and spin the sad sad story. A young Womqn's live and future suffer at the hands of her abuser. Her children suffer. Society suffers. Real men face reality and correct their weakness. Anger management !!! Raising children without violence in the house is the beginning.

Teaching children from birth that treating everyone with respect and compassion is key. A child is not born with hate, anger or a mean spirit. They learn from their environment.

Don john trump is a sitting duck in season. He awaits his accusers and fate. He cannot escape the outcome.
As he rocks back and forth like a bad liddle boy defending porter he knows what is coming for him. He knows his fate. He could be a real man and resign and seek help instead of defense counsel. But we all know the "real Donald trump" he likes to fight. So put him in the ring with a real man and let justice win.

These older than fifty men were young in fifties when over women was normal, abuse was normal. Still lots of old men like this.
How could rob be abusive? He had lineage of abuse or single mom.
