These should be given out for free at every library and bookstore we visit.

Ultimately it will not be the government that protects us from manipulation by the Russians, or other unsavory groups.

It will take education to inoculate ourselves from the influence of fake news.

There is a tiny link at the bottom of the bookmark, would have been nice of you to send some traffic to the American Library Association! https://www.alastore.ala.org/content/fact-or-fiction-bookmark

Unfortunately, we can't FORCE people to do that kind of thing. I can promise you that those who are devoted to Humpty Trumpty WON'T do ANY of that. They will scoff even at the NEED. They WANT their fake news, as was given more weight when the study Gryphen posted about fake news stated it was mostly his followers who WANTED the crap.

And it is THOSE idiots we need to reach with this.

Unfortunately it is not possible to make a horse drink.

  4. Look at the fine print at the bottom.

That quickie Fake News identifying bookmark was developed by a Librarian.

Joanna M. Burkhardt, Master of Arts. Masters of Library Science, professor and head librarian at the University of Rhode Island (URI) branch libraries in Providence and Narragansett.

It is available as a bookmark at the American Library Association store. You can get 100 for $9.

I'm not sure what coffee at Starbucks costs but for the price of a coffee or two you could help fight information illiteracy by passing out 100 of these.

Of course, some people just don't want to know or accept that their sources are fake.

Persistence pays. It took years of replying with Snopes to finally get my Mother to stop forwarding fake news bullshit emails to me.

    OT?"‘by the book’ "
"Andrew Napolitano during ONE of the show’s segments on Rice.
“She’s obviously trying to rewrite history,” Napolitano opined. “She’s trying to make it look as if something happened that didn’t happen.”

“My suspicion,” he continued, “is that [the Obama team] learned something between Jan. 5 and Jan. 25 which would make them want to change the narrative about this meeting. None of us knew about the meeting… It’s a private, secret meeting in the Oval Office. Suddenly, word comes out — and why would ‘by the book’ be in quotations? Who would believe this?” BUT THEN THIS>
" Steve Doocy told Gingrich. “We cannot figure out what Susan Rice was doing 15 minutes into the Trump administration on Inauguration Day when she wrote a memo to herself and emailed it, essentially saying that President Obama and other top law enforcement and FBI and DOJ people did everything by the book when it came to the Russia collusion meeting they had in the Oval Office.”"
"— that she had finally gotten around to it, had a few extra minutes and thought she would capture it in a structured document,” Gingrich explained.

“As she’s cleaning out her office?” Earhardt asked.

“Right,” Gingrich replied. “No, literally, I think — I’ve had that happen to me — I’ll have some piece of paper from a meeting three weeks ago that I never quite got around to capturing in an email or putting into a file. It may well have been she was just tidying up.”"

    1. Just because people work in tech, doesn't make them experts at parenting. They do know tricks for how to monitor and restrict use of technology. Every parent should know how to set boundaries, enforce expectations and teach discipline. Too many parents don't. At least now we have digital native parents raising digital native children so they have some clue as to the pitfalls and advantages of social media and technology.

But we parent as we were parented. So if they weren't monitored or given restrictions or taught good netiquette, it's doubtful they'll teach their children.

My sister works in technology (she's a programmer) and I went round and round with my nephew about video pirating. He sees nothing wrong with downloading a copyrighted movie for free from the internet. If it's on the net, it's "free" and there's nothing wrong with it. He thinks just because he's not burning it and selling it, it's fine. No clue that profit or lack thereof has nothing to do with copyright violation.

Is it any wonder that plagiarism is rampant?

Or that so many people believe everything they read on the internet?

this is wonderful. it saddens me that it has to done. when did freedom of the press get so corrupt. oh, wait, i remember-when trump got elected. a very simple way of telling real from fake is this, if trump says it's fake, it's true.
