Actor/director Jordan Peele manipulates video of Barack Obama to make statement about fake news.

Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

“We’re entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time — even if they would never say those things,” says “Obama,” his lips moving in perfect sync with his words as they become increasingly bizarre. “So, for instance, they could have me say things like, I don’t know, [Black Panther’s] Killmonger was right! Or Ben Carson is in the sunken place! Or, how ’bout this: Simply, President Trump is a total and complete dipshit.”

As the video soon reveals, the man speaking is not the former commander-in-chief, but rather Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele with a warning for viewers about trusting material they encounter online.

“This is a dangerous time. Moving forward, we need to be more vigilant with what we trust from the internet,” says Peele as Obama.

The PSA for the Internet Age was a project first imagined by Peele and BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti, the filmmaker’s brother-in-law.

The pair wanted to warn the public about the rapidly evolving threat posed by digital misinformation after discussions between them about new technologies and the erosion of a shared reality.

Okay I am not going to lie, that is straight up terrifying.

And not so much because somebody MIGHT create a fake video of somebody saying something shocking or controversial (We know that they will.), but that it allows people caught on tape saying something shocking or controversial to claim that THEY were the target of video manipulation.

Think about it.

This means that news outlets might broadcast a completely legitimate video of Donald Trump saying something truly stupid or embarrassing and the Right Wing media can manipulate their own video, claim it is the real one, and call the mainstream media version "fake news."

You know it is going to happen. In fact it probably already has.

So...maybe Donald Trump is not real and is an evil projection for the Hitler era. Just throwing that out there?
I knew shit was going south when lyin' Brian on NBC got caught.
Truth will be a rarity on this earth as everyone has an agenda to be the ruler.
It doesn't help that since the Nazi days propaganda has gotten more slick. Now you'd have to be a pretty smart cookie to discern all the bullshit coming your way. And in American the cookie jar is half empty of the smart cookies and the dumb one ones are left behind. Sigh. We will go way with the dinosaurs. A species who got way ahead of themselves but didn't have the intelligence to manage all that incoming technology.

  2. This is why integrity and high standards in journalism across ALL media is so important. "News" must tell the truth or it cannot claim to be "news." The only way we can trust our "news" sources is to have legislation that legally compels them to tell the truth when reporting "facts" and do their due diligence to make sure they have vetted their sources and they have corroborated their facts.

Anything else MUST be labeled and stated as OPINION. With a running line underneath it for it's entirety if necessary. So ALL of Sean Hannity's show would be labeled as OPINION.

No more Faux News "right to lie" and call it news.

This is a matter of protecting the public. You cannot require the public to do all of this research before forming an opinion. No one has the training or the time required to do it thoroughly and accurately.

Do I see the FCC or any other government entity stepping forward to do this? Nope.

What I would like to see is our news programs and networks step up and voluntarily do it. Do it in such a way that those that do not are NOT trusted.

Walter Cronkite must be spinning at the speed of light as he weeps an ocean at what has become of his profession.

I don’t watch any of it, mlaiuppa. Local news here, especially in the morning, is entertainment cutesy to get your day started right. Tune in elsewhere, people screaming at each other over who’s right or wrong.

    2. But we have to get accurate reporting somewhere. Print is giving way to TV/Cable which is now giving way to the internet/social media. At some point those that are providing our information need to step forward and force their colleagues to maintain a high standard and follow some guidelines. If they don't, the government may step in at some point and regulate it. Considering Trump, the FCC (and destruction of net neutrality) and Sinclair it would be better for the big media giants (minus Faux and Sinclair) to create their own set of professional standards and guidelines for themselves, then shame their colleagues that fail to meet those standards.

This video has been out for a while but it's becoming more and more relevant and true. With the taking over of TV stations by Sinclair, and sneaky stuff like this going on, people won't know what's truly real and what's fake...

"We finish the race. And we do that because of who we are. And we do that because we know that somewhere around the bend a stranger has a cup of water. Around the bend, somebody is there to boost our spirits. On that toughest mile, just when we think that we’ve hit a wall, someone will be there to cheer us on and pick us up if we fall. We know that. And that’s what the perpetrators of such senseless violence -- these small, stunted individuals who would destroy instead of build, and think somehow that makes them important -- that’s what they don’t understand. Our faith in each other, our love for each other, our love for country, our common creed that cuts across whatever superficial differences there may be -- that is our power. That’s our strength." -- President Barack Obama

President Obama's speeches are always inspiring because he's asking his listeners to be the best persons they can be.

I don't think Republican politicians (think Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan), their Fox acolytes and their loyal voters ever paid any attention to a word that President Obama said. If they had, they would not have been as vicious and vituperative in their treatment of him or of the majority of American voters who elected him. I think it is has always been pure racism on their part. They will never forgive the man who, with an African father and a white American mother, was elected president of the United States, not once but twice. They will never forgive him.

'You know it is going to happen. In fact it probably already has.'

Yup! Laura Loomer (of Project Veritas infamy) is *on the case* even now.../s:

'Comey, the author of the new book, A Higher Loyalty, was doing a reading at the Barnes and Noble’s Union Square location, when Loomer began howling.

“You’re going to get prosecuted, you’re going to get locked up,” she can be heard shouting, as security gathered around her...'

    -She taped the whole shameful thing...it's great to see her boo'ed and thrown out but she's screaming conspiracy theories the whole time and at the end actually pretty proud of herself. 'Mission accomplished!' >:{

I see Sean Hannity is playing the victim card and saying all of Donald's woes, and those affiliated with him is never going to end.
I wonder what Cohen did for him, other than "real estate" advice?

I don't think they have to spend the time and money to make fake videos.

we already have a president that LIES about everything, his administration LIES about everything and certain members of Congress LIE about everything.

"There is no more perfect person to write about the Parkland students than the President who kept encouraging the American people
“Yes, we can” and “This is not about me, it’s about YOU.”

TIME explained, “Barack Obama, who has said that his greatest frustration as President was the failure of commonsense gun-safety laws, draws inspiration from the Parkland, Fla., teenagers who organized the March for Our Lives: ‘They have the power … to reject the old constraints, outdated conventions and cowardice too often dressed up as wisdom.'”

"“A woman said to me yesterday, ‘Well you’ve always been beautiful…’” Philipps recounts. “I’m like, are you fucking kidding me? When I started in this business people told me to remove every mole on my face, to lose 15 pounds. Like, go fuck yourself. I’m allowed to feel insecure as well. Just because you feel like I’m prettier than whatever, that’s the idea, that we’re all sort of fucked and in our own world. It’s hard to look outside of ourselves.”"

"That’s the guy we voted for. That’s the guy who really did think hope and change was possible, not just a slogan
(and Crom knows we could use some). That’s the guy who never seemed to find anything hokey about appealing to community, and to our better angels. Here is how he ends his brief essay, and it’s just perfect for these amazing kids, their cause, and the guy who’s writing it, starting with the big idea, and closing with who will make the big idea real:

Our history is defined by the youthful push to make America more just, more compassionate, more equal under the law. This generation — of Parkland, of Dreamers, of Black Lives Matter — embraces that duty. If they make their elders uncomfortable, that’s how it should be. Our kids now show us what we’ve told them America is all about, even if we haven’t always believed it ourselves: that our future isn’t written for us, but by us." CRUZ>
"rump is doing what he was elected to do: disrupt the status quo. That scares the heck out of those who have controlled Washington for decades, but for millions of Americans, their confusion is great fun to watch.
"there’s Newt Gingrich, who apparently thought he’d been asked to write a blurb for the back of Hannity’s book. We’ll give him this much: He doesn’t belabor the point, which he also does not have.

Sean Hannity has a remarkable impact between three hours of radio and an hour of TV every day. His fans listen to him and learn from him. One of his biggest fans is President Donald Trump, who routinely watches the TV show and talks with Sean as a fellow New Yorker. Hannity played a major role in helping Trump get the nomination and win the general election. Sean is both a principled conservative and a ferocious opponent of the left and the deep state. He has made and is making a difference."
